Desk Exercises 21/12/2010

I posted some desk exercises some time ago, but here are some very useful ones that act as a reminder to keep doing them:

Today I am posting some exercise moves to keep you supple in the work place.  To be honest you probably won't see the pounds dropping off, but it all helps.

  1. Try some walk lunges.  When walking along a corridor, take large step, bending the front knee so you drop down as far as is comfortable.
  2. Take the stairs instead of the lift.  Run up them two at a time!!
  3. Shadow box around your office.  You can pretend it is your boss if you like!
  4. Take your shoes off and run on the spot for 60 seconds.
  5. Find a heavy weight and lift it to build muscle tone - could be a jug of water, the office printer or  a stack of books.  Watch your back though.
  6. Stand about 2 feet away from a wall.  Press your hands against the wall and press in and out.  To make the movement more difficult stand further away from the wall.
  7. Find a chair with arms, sit down and press down on the arms to lift yourself off the seat.
  8. Move you chair away from the desk and rest your legs on the desk.  Bend down and try and touch your toes.
  9. Drop you head towards your chest and gently rest your hand on the top of your head to press it down further.  Feel the stretch in your neck and back.
  10. While seated twist around to look behind you, then twist the other way, again looking behind you.
If you do each of these for several repetitions a few times a day you should notice a real difference in your flexibility.  Not sure what your office colleagues will make of it though!

Here's a video with some more exercises should the mood take you:

Quick Q:  Is it ok to eat lunch at my desk? Sally W

No. Do you know how many germs live on your desk?  It’s so scary I’m not telling you, but it’s a lot.  Go outside and get some fresh air. Top up your vit D by getting some sunshine if you can. Here's some info on vitamin d:  http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/the-virtues-of-vitamin-d-its-time-we-saw-the-light-402749.html

Sunshine is good for you!!
