The fun stuff 25/07/2010

I spent a very enjoyable day yesterday doing some fun stuff with my bags and mugs, creating a couple more designs to add to my collection.  I also added some new things to this site.  Firstly on the Home page you will find a little preview of some of my bags.  I added some book recommendations on Photoshop which you will find to the right of this blog page, and finally I have added a photo album which you will find under the link 'more...' above.  I hope you enjoy the new features.

Who's reading? 24/07/2010

Yesterday I discovered the joys of Google Analytics!  Some of you will be responsible for your company's website or blog and most providers will give you an idea of how many visitors to your site you get, and sometimes how they got there (Wordpress offers this feature, and Weebly provides an overall number of visitors but you have to pay for more detail).  Anyway, because I was curious about where the visitors to this site come from I signed up the Google Analytics which is a free service providing a lot more detail on who your site visitors are.  The results are thrilling and I highly recommend you sign up if you have a website.

So who are you all?  Well nearly everyone reading this blog is in the UK which is great news, although I welcome people from across the globe.  If you want to leave a comment to say where you are please do so - I'd love to hear from you all!

Ouch! 21/07/2010

Can't type much today because I cut my finger on a super sharp kitchen knife.  I was chopping up fruit to photograph and use in my mug designs (visit my store for some finished designs).

You may also notice that I have put a feed up on the right of this page from a web site called Office Politics which I thought was quite interesting.  I'll keep my eye out for some more as I spend a busy day trawling the internet.

Hi Super PA (love the name lol).  My boss has asked me to start a blog and I don't know where to start.  Any tips?  To begin with, which blogging site should I use? Amanda J

Hi Amanda.  Thanks for the question.  I was in a similar position at the beginning of last year.  My boss wanted us to get involved in social networking, even though she didn't really know what it was!!  Anyway, to be fair she paid to send me on a course which really helped me with selecting a blog site and with thinking about what I was going to write and what tone to use (I will write about this in more detail at a later date).  Ask you boss if you can go on a course.  Your blog will be a public window of the company so your organisation needs to invest in getting you properly trained.

I started out using Wordpress and now write blogs for three clients.  I'm afraid I haven't used any of the other main ones so I can't compare them.  Weebly, which I use for this blog, is great and easy to use but it is missing some features that I like. I would like to be able to schedule posts in advance which you can do in Wordpress.

Don't be afraid to get started.  A blog grows and develops over time, you just need to begin.

My new image 18/07/2010

Observant readers may have noticed my new picture.  I decided to shell out for an image of my own instead of using a copyrighted picture of Wonder Woman from DC Comics.  What do people think?  Maybe I should do a few versions and let people vote.  I'll think about that.  By the way, if you want to comment I would love to hear from you.  Communication is a two way thing!!  I came across this quote from Bill Gates:

I'm a great believer that any tool that enhances communication has profound effects in terms of how people learn from each other, and how they achieve the kind of freedoms they are interested in.

I like the last part of that too.  Freedom means different things to different people.
